Bob Porter Scholarship
Bob Porter was an omnipresent force in our soccer community for decades, coaching our children on the field and advocating for them off of it in town and league meetings. Bob gave countless hours where it mattered most, coaching 3 different travel teams over the years including a team that did not even have any of his children playing on it! Bob did just about every job the Club needed across his long service to the community. His volunteerism to the Club included three consecutive two year terms as President, Registrar, Travel Director and overall resource for any and all Club issues. He assisted with the development of our “Munchkins” program and helped design it’s training program, and was instrumental in adopting a formal coaching to assist both parent coaches and now professional coaches we utilize.
A few years ago, Bob was elected to the LIJSL Hall of Fame for his contributions and service to the soccer community in our community and on Long Island. He has since “retired” from Club activities but is still a source of support and reference for our Board and our Club.
The Cold Spring Harbor Huntington Soccer Club is honored to offer a scholarship in the name of Bob Porter for his longstanding leadership, dedication and support of our Club. All applicants for this scholarship must be graduating high school seniors, have played for the Cold Spring Harbor Huntington Soccer Club for at least five years and have gone above and beyond in service of the Club and our soccer community. We will also look to choose a recipient who embodies Bob’s leadership and passion for soccer and our community.
